Melrose Vineyards 2012 Estate Riesling, Umpqua Valley, $16
By Great Northwest Wine on June 25, 2015
Erstwhile raisin grower Wayne Parker moved from California’s San Joaquin Valley to Southern Oregon and began in 1996 to establish the first of his two Umpqua Valley vineyards. His original Southern Umpqua River block produces this aromatic Riesling that carries a nose of baked apple pie, ripe peach and cinnamon with a hint of flint. On the palate, it’s filled with peaches and mango flavors as orange peel and rewarding acidity balances the Juicy Fruit Gum finish and residual sugar of 2%.
Rating: Outstanding!
Production: 540 cases
Alcohol: 10.4%
