Raptor Ridge Winery 2013 Barrel Select Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on June 30, 2015
Scott and Annie Shull’s estate plantings form the base of this, but 10 other sites contribute nicely to this beautifully structured and approachable Pinot Noir that spent nine months in a program of 25% new French oak. Aromas of Chelan cherry, red plum and blueberry pick up charming notes of toffee and toast. Inside comes an elegant entry of strawberry and plum, backed by sandy tannins and bright pomegranate acidity. The finish of dried blueberry and trail of smokiness provides pleasing length. Suggested pairings include Chicken Marsala and grilled herbed salmon.
