Browne Family Vineyards 2012 Cabernet Franc, Columbia Valley, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on July 2, 2015
Precept CEO Andrew Browne bottles this blend of Cabernet Franc from Red Mountain’s young Force Majeure, Alder Ridge and Airfield Estates’ Black Rock Vineyard — after a program of 58% French oak for 25 months — has dubbed it a tribute to his grandmother. Francophiles will especially appreciate its nose of fresh oregano and cherry pipe tobacco, which are joined by Bing cherry, chokecherry and black pepper. Inside, there’s pleasing balance with red plum and black cherry flavors among the bold tannins and finish of sage. Suggested pairings include flavorful meats such as elk, venison or rack of lamb.
