Melrose Vineyards 2012 Parker’s Pinot Noir, Umpqua Valley, $40
By Great Northwest Wine on July 6, 2015
Six years ago, California refugee Wayne Parker doubled down in the Umpqua Valley by planting an additional 100 acres near Roseburg, Ore. and devoting it to Pinot Noir. This release from the stellar 2012 vintage ranks among the best in their 15-year history. The nose is ripe with black cherry, dark plum, bittersweet chocolate and vanilla. Its structure is robust, accented by flavors of cassis and Black Cherry Jell-O that are joined by nutmeg, vanilla and plum skins, backed by a long finish of Montmorency cherry.
