Coral Wines 2014 Rosé, Columbia Valley, $20
Seattle-based Christopher Chan joins the ranks of sommeliers who enter into the world of producing wine, and this pink from Rhône varieties serves as a tasty, food-friendly introduction. The incorporation of Mourvèdre (85%) from Blackrock Vineyard in the Yakima Valley with Cinsault off Strand Vineyard in the Naches Heights opens with delicate aromas of fresh strawberry, cherry and cranberry with peach, rose petal and oragne. The entry brings scintillating flavors of ripe raspberry, white peach and dried cherry, backed by delicious acidity. And the screwcap enclosure removes the worry of cork taint. These wines are available online via fellow somm Yashar Shayan’s ImpulseWine.com, brick-and-mortar wine merchants such as Downtown Spirits and Esquin, PCC Natural Markets in Fremont and Greenlake, and on wine lists as Salty’s on Alki and Whitehouse Crawford in Walla Walla.
