Pioneering grower/winemaker Casey McClellan takes a serious and thoughtful approach to his rosé program, focusing on Cabernet Franc off his family’s estate in the Walla Walla Valley and fruit from den Hoed and Lonesome Springs Ranch in the Yakima Valley. They are cropped specifically for rose and hand-picked several weeks ahead of the start of his red wines. A twist of the screwcap leads to aromas of wild strawberry, cranberry taffy, kiwi fruit, white peach and tangerine, followed by beautifully crisp and fresh flavors of cranberry, Montmorency cherry and Bosc pear. Its great mouth feel and lovely tartness allow for a lingering finish of Rainier cherry. While this wine no longer is available at the winery, McClellan’s wines are distributed throughout the country so ask your favorite wine merchant for help.
