Boomtown by Dusted Valley 2013 Merlot, Washington, $19

By on July 16, 2015

boomtown-dusted-valley-merlot-bottle-2013Last year, the 2012 vintage of Dusted Valley’s Boomtown Merlot earned a rare Double Platinum — which signal a unanimous vote of judges — at the Wine Press Northwest Platinum Competition. This young bottling of Boomtown seems to be on a similar track. The usage of 20% new French oak creates aromas of cherry wood and medium toast that wrap around Bing cherry and chocolate-covered pomegranate. The smooth drink is bright and reminiscent of cocoa-dusted dried cherries and red currant, followed by elegant tannins and touches of toffee and caramel in the finish.
