Jacob Williams Winery 2010 Merlot, Columbia Valley, $28
By Great Northwest Wine on July 23, 2015
Brad Gearhart’s showpiece tasting room, set at the base of basalt cliffs near Avery Park along the Columbia Gorge, overlooks the Columbia River and features the wines of longtime talent John Haw. This fascinating Merlot unleashes aromas of black cherry, black currant and smoky blueberry backed by cola, pencil lead, tomato vine, turmeric and oak toast. The pour brings rich and round flavors of dark cherries and currants, framed by supple tannins and delicious cherry tomato acidity. Flecks of minerality appear in the finish.
