Vidon Vineyard 2013 3 Clones Pinot Noir, Chehalem Mountains, $40
A product of the warm vintage, this Salmon-Safe estate vineyard managed by Adelsheim Vineyard was picked Sept. 14. That was nearly three weeks before the 2012 vintage and just ahead of the historic rains that suspended the 2013 harvest throughout the Pacific Northwest. This young, fruit-forward example that blends Pommard, 115 and 777 clones comes unfiltered with notes of strawberry, alfalfa, earthiness and barrel toast. On the attack is a theme of strawberry-rhubarb pie and red currant, backed by well-managed tannins and lingering boysenberry acidity. Suggested fare includes sausage quiche, roasted turn or pork loin rubbed with chili powder and a drizzling of a cherry/wine reduction sauce.
