Styring Vineyards 2013 Afterglow Riesling Dessert Wine, Ribbon Ridge, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on August 1, 2015
The Styring family enters its second decade of presenting a late harvest Riesling for its fans in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Ribbon Ridge winemaker Steven Styring develops this in a style that some may mistake for an ice wine from British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, starting with succulent and alluring aromas of apricot jam and a poached pear drizzled with honey. The sugary fluid also hints at flavors of orchard fruit baked with clove and cardamom. There’s pleasing sweetness at 19% residual sugar and a finish of pineapple juice that provides solid acidity.
