George Kirkish is celebrating 10 years of winemaking at his 1,400-case facility on the north end of Vashon Island, and his fruit sources begin to explain his continued excellence throughout his lineup. Pat Dineen’s fruit in the Yakima Valley is allowed to shine here as the subtle use of oak accounts for aromas of cherry pie, huckleberry and President plum. Inside, it is presented as a lighter, plush style of Syrah, focused on red plum and red currant with modest, fine-grained tannins and a juicy finish of boysenberry. Its balanced structure should make for an enjoy with lean cuts of beef such as marinated London Broil. These wines are available at the Vashon Thriftway, The Hardware Store Restaurant on Vashon and through the winery.
