Milo and Kay May planted their 30-acre parcel in 2005, and their work with Cabernet Sauvignon continues to gather fame. They’ve devoted 6 acres of their site near Crow Butte Park to Syrah, and Ron Bunnell pulls from it as he adds to his award-winning work with Rhone varieties. His oak program creates a nose redolent of a Mounds Bar and Chukar Cherry with its cherry, chocolate and coconut tones, which also pick up gaminess and menthol. There’s more of a fruit focus on the palate, where there are hints of Marionberry, plum and Bing cherry juice. Soft tannins, blueberry, black tea and olive pit make for a crowd-pleasing finish. This wine, released earlier this summer, would seem to be at its peak and is available both at Wine o’Clock in Prosser and the BNU tasting Room (Bunnell-Newhouse-Upland) in Woodinville.
