Fujishin Family Cellars 2013 Tempranillo, Snake River Valley, $23
Sunnyslope Wine District vintner Martin Fujishin continues to display a flair with brawny varieties, including this Tempranillo that taps into Skyline Vineyard and Martin Brothers Vineyard. Fujishin’s elevage program incorporates aging in older barrels, which allow for a refined nose of black cherry, strawberry taffy, coffee, chai spice and tobacco leaf. Blackberry, Bing cherry and spices dance around the palate, which shows elegant tannins, blueberry acidity and smoked plums in the finish. Enjoy with Manchego cheese or suggested pairings of paella and Basque-style croquetas. His wines are available online or in his FFC/Lost West tasting room inside the historic Robison Fruit Ranch packing shed along Highway 55.
