Clearwater Canyon Cellars 2013 Verhey Vineyard Malbec, Washington, $28
By Great Northwest Wine on August 31, 2015
The Umikers quickly embraced the Verhey family’s two plantings, and their vineyard in Rattlesnake Hills above the Yakima Vally has become the go-to site for Wine Press Northwest Magazine’s reigning Idaho Winery of the Year. Aromas include hints of lavender, black pepper and anise among blackberry, blueberry and red plum. Inside, it’s an easy approach of ripe purple fruit akin to Marionberry, black currant and elderberry that’s framed by sandy tannins and a long pulse of blueberry acidity.
