Rob Griffin, the dean of Washington state winemakers, recently added this crisp Iberian Peninsula variety to his award-winning lineup, and he’s found Crawford Vineyard in the Yakima Valley near Prosser to be a worthy site for his White Signature lineup. There’s richness in the nose of pineapple, apricot jam and lemon custard with touches of minerality and sweet herbs. Inside, it offers immediate crispness and classic acidity throughout with brisk flavors of lemon juice, lime peel and more herbs. Sales of this wine are limited to the family’s tasting room and wine bar in Richland.
