Three Rivers Winery 2013 River’s Red Wine, Columbia Valley, $14
Best Buy! There are a few wineries in the Walla Walla Valley that offer bottlings which won’t pinch too hard on the wallet, and here’s the latest example of a food-friendly, everynight wine from Holly Turner. Her 2013 release turns up the influence of Sangiovese (44%) and Malbec (22%) as fruit from the steamy Wahluke Slope dominates. Alluring aromas of blackberry, black cherry, Jolly Rancher grape candy from the Malbec and black olive as well as hints of menthol and rain on a dusty country road. It’s a nicely balanced drink with more of the blackberry and blueberry as smooth flavors, finished with firm tannins, juicy pie cherries and anise.
