Seven Hills Winery 2013 Old Vines Riesling, Columbia Valley, $15
Best Buy! Some folks may think of Casey McClellan and Seven Hills Winery for only their world-class red wines. That would be a mistake, especially considering their recent releases of Pinot Gris, Dry Rosé and this Riesling — traditionally focused on historic blocks at Snipes and Willard vineyards in the Yakima Valley. From a greenish tint reminiscent of a Grüner Veltliner come aromas of Gatorade lemon/lime powder, Granny Smith apple, wet stone and crushed gravel. On the palate, there’s a nice beginning kick of Jolly Rancher Green Apple candy, apricot, spearmint and lavender syrup. It comes with enjoyable viscosity that finishes dry with a bit of white peach skin tannin for a long complex finish.
