Côtes de Ciel 2012 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Syrah, Red Mountain, $39
By Great Northwest Wine on September 19, 2015
The Holmes family’s 40-year-old site includes two clones of Syrah — Foundation Plant Services Shiraz clone 2 and trademarked ENTAV/INRA clone 174 — that were aged entirely multi-use barrels. Its aromas hint at blackberry, black cherry and plum with Nesquik powder. The drink is rather hedonistic, offering flavors of Marionberry, black currant and plum that are joined by rich chocolate, fine-grained tannins and good acidity on the finish. These wines are available in restaurants and wine merchants in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and California in addition to the winery website and the phone at 425-224-2483
