Long Shadows Vintners 2013 Dance Chardonnay, Horse Heaven Hills, $37
Early releases of Gilles Nicault’s Dance Chardonnay project from Long Shadows Vintners’ plantings downstream of Wallula Gap went down the path of 50 percent new French oak, but the longtime Walla Walla winemaker continues to show more restraint and feature more fruit. This latest edition from Kaiser Vineyard shows considerably less influence of wood, starting with clean and bright aromas of apple, pineapple and the minerality often found in the Horse Heaven Hills. There’s no disappointment to the drink, which includes some lychee notes as well as white peach, capped by more of that pleasing minerality. Enjoy with pork chops or roasted chicken.
