Sunnyslope Wine District vintner Gregg Alger is bullish on the future of Malbec in Idaho’s Snake River Valley, and his collaboration on this lesser-known red Bordeaux variety with talented Boise winemaker Melanie Krause continues with award-winning results. The theme here is effusive and constant as plums, black currant, milk chocolate and black pepper make for a beautifully smooth structure, capped by delicious and food-friendly blueberry acidity. This earned a silver medal at the 2015 Idaho Wine Competition, and the Algers increased production from the 2012 vintage so visitors to their Chicken Dinner Road tasting room shouldn’t leave disappointed for a while.
