The Middleton clan, a West Coast multigeneration timber family, adds another tier to its portfolio with this Inconceivable label. While the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are made with California fruit and crafted at their Paso Robles winery, Walla Walla winemaker Kendall Mix stickhandled his way through the lots for this bottling of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wide-ranging vineyard sources include five distinct growing regions — Alder Ridge (Horse Heaven Hills), Gamache (Columbia Valley), Heather Hill and Seven Hills (Walla Walla Valley), Obelisco (Red Mountain) and Vin du Lac (Lake Chelan). Its theme hints at red fruit from start to finish, opening with aromas of cherry, red currant, light chocolate, cloves and porcini mushrooms. On the attack, it also picks up dark plums, which make for a smooth entry, leading to firm tannins and a juicy finish of dark blueberry.
