There’s virtually no vintage when wine grapes don’t achieve ripeness on the Wahluke Slope, and the Milbrandt brothers Clifton Hill gets plenty of sun. Jeremy Santo, who makes the wine for the Flanagan family, used a barrel program of 20 months with 50 percent new French which aromas the enticing nose of vanilla extract and tar with black currant jam, boysenberry and cedar. Inside, it turns to intense Marionberry jam with black cherry and anise. Integrated tannins and juicy acidity lead to a sweet finish of milk chocolate.
