Grenache continues its rise in Washington state, and one of the region’s top triumvirates — Snipes Mountain grower Todd Newhouse, winemaker/sidekick Robert Smasne and vintner Robert Delf — collaborated on this stunning GSM-style blend. It leads with Grenache (70%), followed by equal parts Mourvèdre and Syrah to create aromas of coffee, plum, fig, fresh mint and saddle leather. Inside, there’s a velvety structure of blackberry and black currant as the tannins and acidity work together to lift the fruit. Light toast and smoke from the barrel settle in the background, which is capped by food-friendly bitterness and sweet herbs.
