Ponzi Vineyards 2014 Pinot Noir Rosé, Willamette Valley, $20
Here’s another great example of replicating a winning formula as Luisa Ponzi continues to sacrifice a bit of juice from lots of her top-shelf Pinot Noir and melds that saignée with cooler vineyards such as Dion and Merten for another stunning example of Willamette Valley rosé. Dusty strawberry, Chelan cherry and raspberry aromas include a spoonful of Ambrosia Salad filling. Rainier cherry and plum flavors splash in a mouth feel that’s more full than most rosés, and that’s backed by raspberry acidity and finished with another bite of tree-picked plum and navel orange pulp. And fortunately, the nice yields of the 2014 vintage allowed the Ponzis to double production from their award-winning 2013 edition of Pinot Noir rosé — and maintain the price point.
