One of the exciting movements within the Washington wine industry this century has been the embrace of proprietary blends beyond mainstream versions with Bordeaux varieties. Jessica Munnell takes a fascinating angle with this tribute to Carma Sharp-Mercer and her sisters, an all-estate program with Merlot (47%) and Cabernet Sauvignon from Princeton Vineyard, Syrah (41%) from Dead Canyon Vineyard as well as Petit Verdot and Sangiovese from acclaimed Spice Cabinet Vineyard. It brings aromas of blackberry, toasted oak, coffee, dark chocolate, jasmine and roasted meat. On the palate, expect to taste sweet purple fruit akin to Marionberry and dark pomegranate within a rich entry that’s backed by a delicious midpalate and finished with good acidity for pleasing length.
