Laissez Faire 2014 Red Table Wine, Snake River Valley, $16
Boise native Melanie Krause and her husband, Joe Schnerr, are proud Washington State University grads who continue to raise the profile and the bar for the Idaho wine industry. This red serves as second label for their Cinder Wines in Garden City, and it’s a delicious and affordable blend of Sangiovese and Mourvèdre from five of the Gem State’s premier plantings — Skyline, Sawtooth, Symms, Martin Brothers and Williamson. Aromas of black currant, baked plum and raspberry give way to flavors of black pepper, blueberry and cocoa powder. It’s an easy-drinking red priced for weeknight enjoyment, and it earned best red wine at the 2015 Idaho Wine Competition.
