Angel Vine 2012 StoneTree Vineyard Primitivo, Columbia Valley, $24
Zin man Ed Fus pulls most of his fruit from five Washington state vineyards, and he became a customer of StoneTree in 2008. Tedd Wildman’s site on the Wahluke Slope ranks among the hottest in the Pacific Northwest, making it ideal for Zinfandel and Primitivo. The nose brings hints of raspberry jam, blueberry and black mulberry with sweet thyme, sarsaparilla and light tar. There’s a nice creamy approach to the palate featuring flavors of dark blueberry, boysenberry and coffee, backed by moderate tannins, juicy acidity and a touch of minerality. These wines are available at a number of Washington and Oregon restaurants and merchants — and now at Fus’ Urban Crush winery and tasting room in Portland.
