Tertulia Cellars 2012 Riviere Galets Vineyard Estate Syrah, Walla Walla Valley, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on December 4, 2015
Walla Walla winemaker Ryan Raber pulls off this 12-acre, 1,200-foot elevation site for a Syrah from Milton-Freewater, Ore., that offers elegance over funk. There’s an inclusion of Grenache (10%), which adds juiciness to the profile. The nose features blackberry, caramel and baking spices. Inside, the fruit hints at black currant, and Chelan cherries with charming vanilla notes. Its structure is a theme that emphasizes acidity over tannin, making it a lighter style because of its smooth and approachable angle to the palate. Tertulia Cellars pours its wines in two tasting rooms, Walla Walla and Dundee, Ore.
