Claar Cellars 2013 White Bluffs Cabernet-Merlot, Columbia Valley, $16
By Great Northwest Wine on December 6, 2015
The Claar-Whitelatch family began farming their land along the White Bluffs overlooking the Columbia River less than five years after the end of World War II and joined the wine industry as growers in 1980. Their Salmon-Safe estate blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) and Merlot (35%) offers aromas of black currant, cherry cobbler, dark chocolate, tar, horehound and oregano. Inside, there’s a persistence to the mouthfilling stream of boysenberry and pomegranate that’s capped by cherry skins and black pepper. These wines are widely distributed, available in 20 states as well as in Canada, China, India and Japan.
