Alder Ridge 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven Hills, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on December 7, 2015
One of the Washington wine industry’s workhorse sites celebrated its 15th anniversary with this vintage, and Seattle-based Precept Wine focuses its work under this label to Cabernet Sauvignon. Prosser’s Ron Bunnell spearheaded the winemaking for this bottling, which opens with aromas hinting at the Horse Heaven Hills’ telltale dusty minerality across the top of black currant, boysenberry jam, black pepper and toast. On the palate, the flavors of black currant and cherry are featured alongside nicely integrated oak notes. Its medium tannin structure, blueberry acidity and baking spice accents allow for a rewarding finish of white pepper.
