Ponzi Vineyards 2014 Arneis, Willamette Valley, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on December 19, 2015
Arguably Oregon’s most pioneering craft beverage family – remember they also founded BridgePort Brewing Co. in 1984 – the Ponzis were inspired by friends in Italian to grow this fascinating Piedmonte variety in the Willamette Valley back in 1991. Sustainably farmed at their Aurora Vineyard, the nose offers hints of cantaloupe, muskmelon, fruit cake, caramel and white pepper. On the palate, a clean entry of Granny Smith apple leads to a fleshy midpalate of kiwi fruit and apricot that finishes with a slurp of white peach. Enjoy with mushroom risotto or ceviche.
