SuLei Cellars 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, Yakima Valley, $18
Walla Walla Valley winemaker Tanya Woodley continues to show her flair with Sauvignon Blanc, meriting our top rating for the second successive vintage. What’s particularly interesting is that she achieved similar success with a different Yakima Valley site — Oasis Vineyard, which is farmed by Brenton Roy, recently named Good Fruit magazine’s Grower of the Year. Woodley has captured a gorgeous New Zealand-style Sauvignon Blanc, offering aromas of lime zest, honeydew melon, grassiness and tomcat. The entry to the palate is clean, bright, bone dry and greenish with Granny Smith apple, Bosc pear, melon, spice and herbs. Its focus of crystalline acidity even includes a fascinating bit of apple peel for tannin.
Rating: Outstanding!
