Henry Estate Winery 2014 Pinot Gris, Umpqua Valley, $15
By Great Northwest Wine on December 26, 2015
Best Buy! This historic Roseburg, Ore., property creates this Pinot Gris in a way that throws a tasty curveball. The nose is definitely Oregon in style with its crisp aromas of lemon, starfruit, lemon peel and flint and with a hint of quinine. That profile would seem to hint at a bone-dry Pinot Gris, which is not the case. Instead, the flavors are akin to a fruit cocktail with Uncola, Bartlett pear and Juicy Fruit gum. There’s decent acidity to balance the residual sugar of 1.8%, a profile that makes this quite a crowd pleaser in the tasting room. Suggested pairings include chicken, seafood, pasta and spicy Asian fare.
