Lone Birch 2013 Syrah, Yakima Valley, $13
By Great Northwest Wine on December 28, 2015
Best Buy! Airfield Estates winemaker Marcus Miller launched this second label with the 2009 vintage, and he uses it to showcase the award-winning bounty from his family’s four-generation farm near Prosser, Wash. Syrah is a newcomer to the lineup, and he juices it up with a splash of Grenache (4%). It’s presented in a fruit-forward fashion with aromas of blackberry, dark blueberry, lilac and lavender with a whiff of smoky bacon, spice and cedar. It follows with juicy flavors of blackberry, blueberry and dark cherry. Nicely managed tannins, a pinch of herbs and elderberry in the finish make this an easy drinker.
Rating: Outstanding!
