Noviello Vineyards 2014 French Creek Vineyard Chardonnay, Yakima Valley, $28
Chelan-area vintners Fredric and Ana Stern have embraced Ana’s Italian family roots to name their new winery in Orondo, Wash., and they source from one of the state’s top sites for Chardonnay. There are enjoyable aromas of honeysuckle, apple blossom, Asian pear and pineapple upside down cake. Aged on the lees for 12 months in neutral French oak, its rich yellow color hints at some weight on the palate akin to apricot preserves and pear butter. There’s balance from nice citrusy acidity, backed by almond nuttiness in the finish. These wines have earned placement on wine lists around the Puget Sound at Assaggio Ristorante in Seattle and El Gaucho in Bellevue.
