The Miller family farm near Prosser, Wash., served as an airbase during World War II, and now its nearly 900 acres of vineyards are producing some of the state’s top wine values. This attractive red blend continues to lead with Syrah (51%), but Merlot (35%) comes in just behind to add framework. Blackberry, Bing cherry and strawberry jam aromas pick up notes of sweet toast, cola, cedar and black pepper. Inside, it’s juicy and jammy as flavors of blackberry pie and black currant mix with a medium tannin structure. Touches of plum, graphite, leather and anise in the finish add to the complexity.
