Abacela NV Estate Vintner’s Blend #15, Umpqua Valley, $18
By Great Northwest Wine on January 7, 2016
In past years, this proprietary Mediterranean-styled red has included as many as a baker’s dozen varieties, but this edition stands at 10 grapes — leading with Tempranillo (37%), Syrah (26%) and Malbec (11%). There’s nice meatiness in the nose with good support from black currant, smoky cherries, dried blueberries and chalkboard dust. Inside, it’s a bold drink of blueberry, huckleberry and pomegranate flavors that bring firm tannins and a finish of caramel.
