Pondera Winery 2012 LTD X Red, Columbia Valley, $42
By Great Northwest Wine on January 9, 2016
Award-winning vintner Shane Howard, whose 2012 Cabernet Franc merited a spot on The Seattle Times’ Top 50 list from 2015, continues to “live the dream” in Woodinville, and his Right Bank-style blend of Merlot (39%), Cabernet Franc (36%), Cabernet Sauvignon (19%), Malbec (4%) and Petit Verdot from Stillwater Creek shows his passion for blending. Dusty blueberry, huckleberry and chalkboard dust notes also allow for ample oak expression with hints of a vanilla latte. Its big fruit profile and moderate tannin profile finishes with a hint of gaminess and vanilla extract.
