Woodinville winemaker Noah Fox Reed took the handoff from globetrotting colleague Marcus Rafanelli and shepherded this Right Bank-style blend of Merlot (66%) from Red Willow and Chandler Reach vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon (11%) and Cabernet Franc (7%) off Dineen, Petit Verdot (9%) from the Milbrandt brothers’ Northridge Vineyard and Malbec via Gamache. It brings a fruity and spicy nose of black cherry and plum with cinnamon bark, cocoa and California pepper tree corns. On the palate, the purple fruit flavors of Bing cherry, blueberry and pomegranate are so big, round and juicy that they would inspire Sir Mix-A-Lot. Its great finish bodes well for barbecued ribs or hanger steak.
