There aren’t many standalone bottlings of Petit Verdot, traditionally a blending grape in Bordeaux, but Whitman County winemaker Patrick Merry shows the temerity and the talent with four barrels from both Seven Hills East and Stillwater Creek vineyards. The theme of this 50/50 blend is dense and brooding with dark tones of blackberry, plum and cherry cola joined by tar, molasses and mincemeat spice. While the mouth feel is predictably broad with formidable tannins and pomegranate acidity, yet it achieves remarkable balance for those who appreciate bold reds.
