Argyle Winery 2005 Extended Tirage Brut, Willamette Valley, $75
Founding winemaker Rollin Soles developed this program, and the Extended Tirage Brut is back after a two-year hiatus. It’s the most highly prized of seven sparkling wines in the program at this Dundee, Ore., showpiece, in large part because of the investment of time — a decade in bottle on the lees before disgorging on Aug. 15, 2015, by head winemaker Nate Klostermann. Because of that bottling aging, the blend of Pinot Noir (65%) and Chardonnay sends out aromas of dusty starfruit, Gala apple, white strawberry and a squirt of fresh lime. There is grace on the palate with a clean entry of Honeycrisp apple and Rainier cherry flavors, followed by a creamy midpalate of rounded mousse. Gentle acidity makes for a lengthy finish of starfruit and an easy drink.
