Walla Walla winemaker John Freeman has built a rather fascinating reserve-style Chardonnay that builds the rich mouth feel and does so without all the wood. The rich, golden production from Yakima Valley sites Canyon Vineyard Ranch and Oasis Vineyard takes on an oak program of 54% new French with aromas of Asian pear, lemongrass, toast, caramel and butterscotch. There’s lots of malolactic fermentation showing on the palate of butterscotch, pear and apple, leading to a rather focused finish.
