Schultz Wines 2013 Steelhead Run Vineyard Grace Pinot Gris, Rogue Valley, $14
Best Buy! Greg Schultz spent three decades in chemical engineering after graduating from the University of Tennessee before moving to Southern Oregon and entering the wine industry. While developing his own 6-acre vineyard, he’s working with small lots from from sustainably farmed sites such as Steelhead Run. His Pinot Gris shows the influence of seven months on the lees in neutral French oak barrels. The amber fluid offers tones of toast, butterscotch and honey with apricot and Asian pear. Fervent lime acidity and lingering minerality build the finish of a wine Schultz and his master gardener/wife Debbie pair with a plate of Grilled Shrimp with Spicy Cheese Grits.
