Malbec a delicious Pacific Northwest red

Silvan Ridge Winery 2013 Malbec, Rogue Valley, $22

silvan-ridge-winery-malbec-2013-bottleArgentina product Juan Pablo Valot is showing consistent excellence with Malbec from Southern Oregon, and this is a follow-up to his 2012 vintage from 20-acre Gold Vineyard in Talent. He doubled production of this Bordeaux variety and presents aromas of sweet oak with dusty blackberry, strawberry and cedar, backed by vanilla, black olive and dark chocolate. The drink offers elegance as smooth flavors of dark blueberry and elderberry are framed by mild tannins, penetrating acidity and baking spices. Valot views this as an alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon and serves it with barbecued meats or pizza.
