Hat Ranch Winery 2012 Malbec, Snake River Valley, $27

hat-ranch-winery-malbec-2012-labelTexas-trained winemaker Tim Harless reaches into Arena Valley Vineyard, the estate planting for Snake River Winery, for his darkly toned take on this Bordeaux variety that’s emerging as one of Idaho’s most promising red grapes. On the attack, there’s a smooth approach of more blackberry and boysenberry with managed tannins. Ripe raspberry acidity creates length.
