Weisinger Family Winery 2012 Estate Tempranillo, Rogue Valley, $32
By Great Northwest Wine on February 10, 2016
This early-ripening red grape native to the Iberian Peninsula seems to thrive at higher-elevation sites, and Eric Weisinger grows his Tempranillo along a northeast-facing slope at an altitude of 2,200 feet. It presents attractive aromas of Rainier cherry, mocha, vanilla and toasted coconut with sweet herbs. On the palate, its rather bold structure offers a wealth of juicy cherry and pomegranate flavors, framed by blueberry skin tannins. Enjoy with a plate of bone marrow or Smothered Beef Short Ribs. These wines are available in Ashland, Medford, online and at the tasting room.
