Plaisance Ranch 2013 Syrah, Applegate Valley, $25
By Great Northwest Wine on February 17, 2016
Rancher/grower Joe Ginet works with fruit from the Williams Valley, a cooler site in Southern Oregon with an elevation for 2,000 feet and the recipient of an annual 25 inches of rain. His latest example of Syrah is fruity and firm, bringing aromas of Bing cherry juice and plum with sweet spices, toast and cardamom. Inside, ripe plum, blackberry and maple syrup flavors are met by blueberry skin tannins, pomegranate acidity and dark toast. Bring on the pork ribs. These wines are available at select wine shops from Eugene to Ashland as well as the ranch.
