Quady North 2014 Bomba Grenache, Rogue Valley, $25
Dubbed as a fruit “bomb” by Herb Quady, he and associate Brian Gruber’s effort with neutral French oak for eight months allows him to release this expression of the Rhône grape – with sibling Syrah (5%) – ahead of other reds from his program. The 48 hours of cold soaking whole berries from Eevee’s, Jaxon, Mae’s and Quail Run vineyards makes for a nose full of red cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, mint and baking spices. There’s no disappointment on the palate as the approachable, delicious drink also includes flavors of President plum. And that lighter style – almost rosé-like – makes it ideal with straight-forward fare, pizza and tomato-based pasta dishes.
