Founding winemaker/oncologist David Smith recently resigned from this downtown Vancouver, Wash., project to focus on cancer research, but this Syrah is just one of many delicious wines he’s left behind for partners Mark Mahan and Greg Wallace to sell with ease. Grapes from Mike Andrews’ erstwhile cattle ranch paved the way for a dense nose of plum jam, blueberry, bittersweet chocolate, mincemeat spices and butter. Huge extraction generates a hedonistic delivery that paints the tongue with blueberry syrup, plum and Marionberry. Its smoky and toasty finish also carries a bite of Aussie-style black licorice that’s quite intense. These wines are available at restaurants and wine shops in the Vancouver/Portland area.
