Del Rio Vineyards 2012 Estate Claret, Rogue Valley, $35
By Great Northwest Wine on March 4, 2016
Loire Valley native Jean-Michel Jussiaume takes a Right Bank Bordeaux approach to this Meritage-style red wine by leading it with Merlot (43%), Cabernet Sauvignon (37%), Malbec (13%) and Cabernet Franc. It offers an intense aromatic hints of earthiness and chalkboard dust with blackberry, plum, dark cherry, vanilla extract, cola and dried herbs. Elderberry, boysenberry and pomegranate form the flavorful theme, which is framed by age-worthy tannins, brisk acidity and more sweet herbs.
